"We hope to take a further step during the next three days. I'm happy with how Yamaha is working, we have the potential but we have to find the way to prove it."
A confident but at the same time cautious Fabio Quartararo, given the progress of recent seasons, revealed together with his teammate Alex Rins the M1 that will compete in the 2024 MotoGP world championship. The Sepang circuit will be the setting where, from tomorrow to Thursday, the bikes will take to the track of the maximum displacement for the first official tests of the season.
The desire to become a protagonist again in the world championship "is a lot, a lot" repeated the Frenchman, world champion in 2021, when asked by Sky Sport.
"Everyone should know that 2023 was not positive; neither for me nor for the team. We really hope to get back to the top.
Thanks to the concessions during we will have a bit more testing available to develop the bike."
The 2024 concessions, introduced to try to reduce the gap between the various teams, (linked to the percentage of points won by each, assign tires and test days in proportion, but also the possibility of developing the engines, ed.), have allowed Quartararo to test in advance the new Yamaha engine, but also "aerodynamics and chassis. There are positive aspects, but also negative".
The minimum objective for 2024 is to be a protagonist again: "I can't talk about the final result, but I want to win again. I only have this in mind. I don't know if it will be a short or long process to return to victory, but I will get it together with my team this year".
