Toyota announced a partial extension of its production suspension until Friday in the face of a data manipulation scandal at one of its diesel engine suppliers.
The shutdown of six production lines at four plants in central Japan will remain in force until the Japanese Ministry of Transportation gives the green light, which has ordered a ban on the shipment of certain engines produced by Toyota Industries Corp. The blockade, which involves models such as the Land Cruiser and the Hiace, it was initially scheduled until Monday, and the car company anticipated that it will decide on Thursday whether or not it will be able to resume production starting from February 12th.
Assembly lines have been at a standstill since Toyota Industries Corp admitted in late January that it had falsified data on the diesel engines it makes and supplies for the world's largest automaker, prompting the suspension of shipments of 10 Toyota models sold globally.
