Iran's oldest woman died at the age of 125, according to her identity papers, state television announced Tuesday, but her status as the dean of humanity was not recognized by Guinness World Records.
Born on September 23, 1898, Masoumeh Saneï Toroghi died on Monday in Mashhad, in the north-east of Iran, television said, publishing a photo of her identity card.
She would thus have died at an older age than that of Frenchwoman Jeanne Calment, who is considered the longest-lived person in history, having died at the age of 122 in 1997.
In Iran, the State began to issue a family record book from 1918, 20 years after the presumed birth of Masoumeh Saneï Toroghi.
Local media announced in 2020 the death of an Iranian Kurd at the age of 138 according to his identity papers.
According to Guinness World Records, the oldest of humanity is currently the Spaniard Maria Branyas Morera, who will celebrate her 117th birthday on March 4.
