This Wednesday, the Alençon public prosecutor's office (Orne) announced the indictment of two people, after the death of a 42-year-old man, during a wild boar hunt this Sunday.

“A person participating in a wild boar hunt” in the town of Verrières (Orne) died on Sunday, state prosecutor Laetitia Mirande said in a press release.

The victim was 42 years old, according to local media Le Perche.

According to the prosecutor, criminal identification technicians (TIC) from the Alençon gendarmerie noted that “the lifeless body of the hunter was pierced by a bullet in the abdomen”.

Eleven people, including the victim, participated in this hunting action on several plots, without authorization from the owners of the land, added Laetitia Mirande, who had entrusted the flagrant investigation to the Mortagne-au-Perche Research Brigade in co-operation. -referral to the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB).

Violation of security obligations

Presented to the investigating judge, they were indicted “on counts of involuntary manslaughter during a hunting action by clearly deliberate violation of an obligation of safety or prudence”.

They are placed under judicial control with a ban on possessing or carrying a weapon as well as several contact bans.

On Sunday, in Gondreville (Meurthe-et-Moselle), a hunter was also indicted for involuntary manslaughter after an accidental shooting which fatally injured one of his 72-year-old companions.

During the 2022-2023 season, hunting accidents caused the death of six people in France, including none who were non-hunters, according to the OFB's report at the end of August.

Three non-hunters had been killed in the previous two seasons.

For non-fatal injuries, the OFB recorded 78 firearm accidents during the last season.
