Every year about 30 people are killed in traffic accidents due to a vehicle crossing a red light.

According to a survey by the Green Or Association, one in five drivers admits to having run a red light in the past year.

Even the vehicle of the Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gabir, was involved in an accident last year while crossing the French Giva junction in Adom.

About a third of the A3 police enforcement cameras are stationed at central intersections throughout the country, and record drivers who cross red lights, alongside those who drive at excessive speed.

However, as recently discovered by A, who crossed a red light at an intersection at the Keri Naaman interchange on Route 4 in the north, the police record such offenses even at intersections where there are no permanent orange cameras.

This is done through tactical cameras, which the police transport from place to place and are also used to document other crimes.

The fine: 4 times the original

At the end of the hearing, the court convicted A. Judge Yonat Haberfeld Avraham and wrote in the sentence: "It can be seen with certainty that the defendant crosses the intersection with a full red light, when the red light appears both at the traffic light near the intersection and at the opposite traffic light. The video completely contradicts the defendant's claims. It should be noted that even if the defendant's claim was true, i.e. the traffic light did not change for 3 minutes, this does not mean that the traffic light was broken."

Haberfeld Avraham ordered the defendant to pay NIS 1,500 in court costs and another NIS 3,000 fine, 4 times the original fine for the offense, and he will also receive 10 mandatory points from the licensing office.
