The “bending right of way” sign is not exactly uncommon in road traffic.

But many drivers ask themselves: Who actually has to use the indicator?

It often happens that traffic signs are misinterpreted by drivers - for example, when the additional sign "snowflake" is displayed below a speed limit.

And with some traffic signs, such as the arrow with the red dot, many people don't even know what it could mean.

The situation is somewhat different with the “bending right of way”: This traffic sign, which actually consists of two signs (the give way sign and the additional sign “bending right of way”), is seen relatively often.

The answer to the question of who has the right of way should actually be clear.

However, many people make a mistake when it comes to the sign - namely when it flashes.

What a mistake many drivers make when “bending right of way”.

The mistake that can often be observed: Drivers who are, for example, on the priority road that bends to the left, signal to the right when they drive straight through the intersection - because they want to signal that they are leaving the priority road.

But that is wrong.

“This can lead to misunderstandings and even accidents,” as ADAC club lawyer Stephan Miller explains in a video.

For example, if a car is waiting on the right in the junction, the driver could trust that you will turn into “his” street and, in the worst case scenario, an accident could occur.

It is just as wrong not to signal when following the right of way, like the white car in the graphic.

Because: At an intersection with the sign “bending right of way” the flashing is no different than at any other intersection - namely when you as a driver want to change the direction of travel.

For our example in the graphic, this means: Both the blue car and the white car must flash because they both change their direction of travel.

According to bussgeldkatalog.org

, if drivers ignore the “bending right of way” traffic sign, they face

 a fine of 25 euros.

If other road users are endangered, 100 euros will be charged; there is a point in Flensburg for this.

There are also some other traffic situations at intersections in which not every driver immediately knows how to behave: For example, in the rare case that four cars arrive at an equal intersection at the same time or in a somewhat more tricky turning situation with three cars at one Crossing.
