A passenger can get on your nerves.

A survey now shows which behaviors particularly annoy drivers.

There are numerous factors that can cause stress for drivers.

According to the

ADAC

, the “pushers” are right at the front – i.e. drivers who follow closely and do not keep the safe distance.

Many people also feel annoyed by cyclists, as well as by “aggressive driving behavior” in general.

But: The cause of the stress is not always outside the car.

Passengers can also really annoy the handlebars.

A survey now shows who is particularly annoying in the next seat.

According to the survey, life partners and your own parents are the worst passengers

According to a survey by the gas station chain

HEM,

more than half of all drivers (54 percent) spend most of their time alone in the car.

But 77 percent of those surveyed would like to change this - and would like a passenger.

However, many people are very selective: for many people, the worst passenger is their own life partner - 33 percent said they were annoyed by them in the car.

Their own parents came in second place (21 percent), ahead of their children (ten percent).

Many drivers also feel disturbed by their in-laws (7 percent) and friends (7 percent).

A nuisance in the next seat: Which behaviors of passengers are annoying

But which behaviors of the passengers are perceived as particularly disturbing?

At the top is the “know-it-all” type (53 percent), i.e. people who know how to get into each parking space more skillfully - or who have already “predicted” the traffic jam.

Many drivers are also annoyed by scaredy-cats (30 percent), i.e. passengers who like to step on the imaginary brake or reach for the handle in a panic.

Smokers (21 percent), smokers (14 percent) and self-proclaimed car DJs (13 percent) who change the music without being asked are also not very popular in the next square.

However, one in five drivers (20 percent) remains calm in every passenger situation - and doesn't let the person next door upset them.

Particularly popular as a passenger: good conversation partners

But questions were also asked in the other direction - that is, about characteristics that make a particularly pleasant passenger.

The following are particularly popular with those behind the wheel:

By the way, not all help from “next door” is legal: passengers, for example, are also prohibited from using speed camera warning apps, as a recent court ruling showed.

And you shouldn't behave too casually in the passenger seat either: if you put your feet on the dashboard while driving, you're putting yourself in a position that could be life-threatening in an accident.

Passengers have one main wish for the driver (79 percent): He should remain calm and drive safely and attentively.

According to the gas station chain

HEM,

2,163 people were interviewed for the survey in January 2024.
