A fire broke out on Saturday morning in a building at an agricultural high school in Coulounieix-Chamiers (Dordogne), report our colleagues from Sud Ouest and France Bleu Périgord.
About 800 ducklings were inside when the fire broke out.
They are all dead or poisoned.
It was high school employees who alerted the emergency services mid-morning.
Around ten drums of fuel oil were stored inside and around 200 liters were burned.
Around thirty firefighters were mobilized to put out the fire.
Around 80% of the 700m² building was damaged.
The causes of the fire are currently unknown.
Between 500 and 800 ducklings were inside the building, which served as storage space, the director of the establishment Pascal Buron told Sud Ouest.
They all died in the fire or were poisoned.
In order to protect the rest of the duckling farm, the ventilations of the other buildings were cut off.
The causes of the fire remain unknown at this time.
