Bosch announced a hydrogen engine at CES.
This has many advantages over the fuel cell.
However, there were also technical problems to overcome.
Our cars still run primarily on diesel or gasoline.
But that will change in the coming years.
The electric car is already becoming more and more important.
However, the goal of 15 million electric vehicles by 2030 will be difficult to achieve due to the elimination of the environmental bonus.
Another alternative for climate-friendly propulsion is hydrogen.
Bosch is working on a corresponding motor, as explained at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
In addition to automatic charging for electric cars, this is probably one of the most exciting innovations the supplier had up its sleeve.
Even though the components are still being worked on, Bosch wants to bring the hydrogen engine onto the market in 2024.

Hydrogen engine has advantages over fuel cell: Less weight and more efficient
Compared to the fuel cell, which Bosch is also working on, the combustion engine has a major advantage: it converts the hydrogen directly into propulsion without having to first convert it into electricity.

The H2 engine also saves weight.
The electricity generated in the fuel cell must be temporarily stored in a battery before it powers the vehicle.
The combustion engine only requires a tank for the hydrogen.
Water vapor and nitrogen oxides are emitted.
“Powered by green hydrogen, this engine is almost CO₂-neutral,” emphasizes Bosch.

So it's no surprise that Hyundai also wants to bring a hydrogen engine in 2025.
And Yamaha is also working on a V8 engine.
However, there are some difficulties that need to be overcome, as

It therefore has no lubricating properties.
Hydrogen is also a very reactive element and can combine with materials in the engine block.
