Car owners face possible additional costs.

A new proposal for the StVZO provides for the abolition of the defect loop.

Owners of older cars in particular fear: the general inspection (HU)!

A planned change to the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO) could increase this fear in the future, because the “defect loop” is soon to be eliminated.

This is reported by

Auto, Motor und Sport

with reference to a letter that the North Rhine-Westphalia Motor Vehicle Trade Association has received.

The Federal Ministry of Justice (BMJ) is currently examining the legality of the proposal.

If the initiative were to be implemented, it would mean additional costs for car owners.

Defect loops should be eliminated: inspectors lose leeway when awarding stickers

As is well known, if the car fails, there is no new sticker and an expensive follow-up inspection is required.

However, due to the defect loop, a process within the scope of the HU, the inspectors from TÜV, KÜS, GTÜ or Dekra have some leeway.

If a minor defect emerges during the inspection at a testing center (in a workshop), a new sticker can still be issued.

These can then be remedied on site.

However, there is no entitlement.

It is therefore advisable to check the most important functions in advance.

According to the HU guidelines, such minor defects would be, for example, defective lights, minor damage to mirrors, tire inflation pressure or even missing dust caps on the tire valves.

In the future, the inspector would also have to fail such vehicles.

The owner must have the defects rectified and present the car again for a fee-based follow-up inspection (around 30 euros).

If the deadline is missed, there is a risk of a fine of around 40 euros.

The main inspection must then also be carried out in full again.

Defect loop should be eliminated: Central Association of the German Motor Vehicle Trade criticizes it

The Central Association of the German Motor Vehicle Trade (ZDK) particularly criticizes the additional effort for owners.

And the elimination of the reporting loop would also mean more work for the workshops, explains ZDK Vice President Detlef Peter Grün to

The vehicles that would normally pass would also have to be checked with the planned change.

This costs time and space.

In addition, more appointments for the follow-up examinations are necessary.

These would have to be planned and documented.

The ZDK also expects more dissatisfaction among the owners.

The regional associations are therefore called upon to take these negative effects into account.

The good news: Before the change comes into force, it still has to go through the Federal Council.

This person can still make changes.
