Ionna, the joint venture created to build and operate a high-power electric vehicle charging network across North America, has received approval from regulators and can now officially begin operations.

Formed by seven of the world's main car manufacturers - such as BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz and Stellantis - and led by Seth Cutler, Ionna LLC aims to implement at least 30 thousand charging stations, with the opening of the first stations charging in the US in 2024.

Plans to expand into Canada at a later stage.

Each site - we read in the joint statement released by the seven companies that are part of Ionna - will be equipped with multiple high-power columns to facilitate long-distance travel, in line with the sustainability strategies of all seven manufacturers.

Ionna aims to provide the best-in-class charging experience.

This will be achieved by providing various services, such as catering, retail and toilets.

Customers can use convenient stations equipped (where possible) with canopies to further focus on customer comfort and unprecedented ease of charging.

Perfect integration with the experiences on board the vehicles of the participating car manufacturers and through the related Apps is envisaged. Reservations, intelligent route planning and navigation, payment applications and transparent energy management can be made.

"I am honored to lead Ionna - declared CEO Seth Cutler - and to work alongside these important car manufacturers in shaping the future of electric mobility".

“Our shared commitment to creating an extensive, high-power charging network reflects our dedication to revolutionizing the entire electric vehicle charging experience and helping drive widespread adoption of these cars.”
