Will the Vision Pro, the mixed reality glasses make the iPad unnecessary?
Bloomberg reporter Mark Gorman claims yes, but with caveats.
In his weekly newsletter, Power On, Gorman says that the iPad has lost its original identity as a "giant iPhone" with a big screen.
When the iPad was announced in 2010, the idea was simple: to have all the amazing features of the iPhone on a bigger screen.
This message quickly connected with customers who used the device to watch videos, surf the web, view photos and perform light work tasks.
Over the years, Apple tried to position it as a replacement for a Mac computer, with a keyboard, trackpad and professional software.
However, according to you Gorman, the move confuses consumers and weakens the status of the device.
In fact, this strategy produced mixed results - leaving the iPad in an uncertain space.
The device lost its original purpose, did not meet critical customer needs, and became less prominent in Apple's product catalog.
This is where the Vision Pro comes into play.
"After using the $3,499 device for a week or so, I believe the Vision Pro may actually "swallow" the iPad," Gorman wrote in his newsletter.
"It has the potential to provide a much better experience for the primary tasks Apple's tablet is designed to perform. But don't get me wrong, it's still early days."

Apple executives believe, according to Gorman, that at least four generations of improvements - similar to the iPhone, the iPad and the smart watch - may make the Vision Pro a possible replacement for the iPad in the future.
These views also fit with the perspective of Elon Musk, who shared his thoughts on the Vision Pro on X (formerly Twitter) last week.
According to him, the Vision Pro is not yet specified, similar to the first iPhone.
However, he claims that the iPhone 3 solved all the problems and became a great device.
