A person remains untraceable after a violent fire destroyed a water park under construction on Monday in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The fire is under control, but the investigation remains complex.

The risk of collapse within the Swedish amusement park which caught fire on Monday in Gothenburg is hampering search efforts on Tuesday, say the emergency services.

One person is still missing after this fire which ravaged a water park under construction.

“We explored the accessible parts, the ones we consider safe, and we couldn't find anyone,” Per Nyqvist, an official with Gothenburg's rescue services, told a news conference.

Firefighters are still working to extinguish the fire and are forced to set up secure areas inside the building due to the risk of collapse, he added.

The origin of the fire could have come from a water attraction outside the main building, and the fire then spread “through the building”.

Flames still present

Images of the fire on Monday morning showed exploding fireballs, flames and several explosions destroying a water slide, while a cloud of black smoke rose above the city.

“There is no longer any smoke released which affects the neighborhood but there are still flames and smoldering fires in certain structures of the building,” according to a press release from the emergency services on Tuesday.
