The attacker had come to “file a complaint at the police station”.
A police officer was slightly injured with a knife on Tuesday in La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime) by a man, we learned from the prosecution, according to whom no “sentence apologizing for terrorism” was “pronounced”.
The events occurred around 12:30 p.m. at the reception of the police station, where the official was responsible for collecting complaints.
According to two union sources, the attacker, described as “very agitated”, “refused to sit down”.
The 30-year-old then attacked the police officer with a knife, lightly injuring him on the lip, neck and a finger, “cuts” described as “superficial” by a police source.
A “traumatic” attack
The victim was “evacuated by the firefighters without serious injury”, confirmed Arnaud Laraize, public prosecutor in La Rochelle.
Controlled using a taser and arrested, the individual was placed in police custody, he added.
A French national, he has no criminal record.
An investigation was opened and entrusted to the DCOS (Organized and Specialized Crime Division) of La Rochelle.
“We are shocked once again by this gratuitous violence committed against the police,” reacted the Unité SGP Police union to Sud Ouest, denouncing a “violent and traumatic” attack.
