Motor insurance rates are rising again (in November +7.1% on an annual basis according to Ivass), and the government is taking action by convening the rapid alert price surveillance commission for tomorrow 14 February to analyze the performance of the insurance sector.
A meeting in which consumer associations, body shop associations and insurance experts will also take part.
The increases recorded by Ivass in November 2023 translate into a greater expense of +31 euros per policy, according to Assoutenti's calculations, with Naples and Prato recording the highest cost of the car liability insurance policy, with an average of over 559 euros, followed by Caserta ( 501 euros) and Pistoia (487 euros).
For Federcarrozzieri, the association of Italian body shops, the expenditure on repairs is "strongly conditioned by the increases in spare parts prices which from 2021 to today have increased on average by +48%, and in the last year by +13%", but also by the fact that "insurance companies directly or indirectly control the repair market and use repair broker companies".
Insurance experts from Aiped instead point the finger at the practice of "outsourcing the assessment of damages to joint-stock companies with vast areas of territorial jurisdiction called, improperly, 'Authorities', entities that manage the assessment and estimate of damages mostly remotely, even with the use of personnel not authorized to carry out the technical activity which can only be carried out by specialized technicians".
