The man accused of raping an 18-year-old young woman on Saturday in the toilets of the Purpan hospital in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) was indicted and placed in pre-trial detention, we learned this Tuesday from parquet.
The events occurred on Saturday February 10 at the University Hospital Center around 11 p.m., according to the prosecution.
The victim, who had presented himself to the emergency room, had gone out to smoke a cigarette when the suspect, a 30-year-old homeless man, accosted him.
“They started talking.
He asked her where the toilets were.
She showed him the toilets and she explains that afterwards, he raped her,” said the Toulouse public prosecutor’s office.
A judicial investigation was opened on Monday for rape of a vulnerable person.
It was the hospital security services who arrested the suspect and made him available to the police.
A union accuses the hospital and the ARS of “inaction”
This would be the second sexual assault that occurred on the night of February 10 to 11 in the hospital emergency room.
A woman was allegedly attacked by another patient in the department, before the nursing staff came to her aid, according to La Dépêche du midi.
An investigation is underway to determine whether the two attacks are linked.
The SUD Santé Sociaux union at the Toulouse University Hospital has filed an alert for “serious and imminent danger” and denounces the “inaction” of the hospital and the Regional Health Agency.
“The caregivers are in deep disarray, disarmed, shocked by these crimes which affected people placed under their responsibility,” he wrote in a press release.
The union is demanding the hiring of staff and the opening of new beds “so that these horrible situations do not happen again”.
Quoted by La Dépêche du midi, the management of the CHU specifies that “the families of the two patients were met this weekend by the medical team and the director of duty”.
She claims to have put in place psychological support for the emergency department.
