The monitoring of the TPL costs, which saw a meeting of the Rapid Alert Price Surveillance Commission at Mimit with the Minister Adolfo Urso and the Price Surveillance Guarantor Benedetto Mineo, as well as representatives of the insurance sector associations, is only a first meeting.
"There will be others until we proceed in the right direction, thanks also to the discussion with all the actors involved", said Urso in a note indicating the objective of tariffs "equal to or lower" than other European countries.
A note from Mimit recalls the increase in the average price of car insurance of +7.3% in real terms between December 2023 and the same period in 2022, recorded by Ivass.
The average price paid is 391 euros for contracts stipulated in the fourth quarter of 2023.
The increases were recorded in all provinces and ranged between +4.4% and +10.9%.
The largest ones are recorded in Caltanissetta (+10.9%), Rome (+10.4%) and Vercelli (+10.2%).
Furthermore, the price differential between Naples and Aosta is equal to 242 euros, an increase of 1% on an annual basis and a reduction of 46.1% compared to the fourth quarter of 2014. Possible solutions to contribute to structural containment will be evaluated, explains Mimit of car insurance prices as part of an overall reorganization program for the national insurance system.
This, Mimit recalls, already has to its credit the approval of measures such as: the transposition of Directive 2021/2118 on Motor TPL;
the reform of the Single Table of the value of the biological damage of macrolesions (which had been pending for 18 years);
the obligation for insurance companies that have insured the risk of catastrophic damage to pay an advance of 30% of the damage;
and the obligation for those who have used the earthquake bonus to take out insurance.
Urso, 'worrying rise in car insurance, let's work on interventions'
"The context of high inflation in the first period of 2023 and the gradual recovery of mobility at the end of the restrictions associated with the pandemic have led to a worrying increase in car insurance prices".
This was declared by the Minister of Business and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, in a note released at the end of the meeting on the Rapid Alert Commission on insurance price trends, underlining the need to "intervene further so that the inflationary dynamic decreases".
"The Government is working to reorganize the entire national insurance system, in order to guarantee efficiency and sustainability to the sector, and protection of citizens and businesses. The objective is for the sector to record costs equal to or lower than those of the others European countries.", he declared, announcing new meetings of the commission.
