The envelopes were trapped.
Letters containing a “toxic” white powder were sent to at least three official buildings in Brussels, the Belgian capital's king's prosecutor announced Friday evening, specifying that no one had been injured.
These envelopes were received Thursday at State Security, at the office of the Minister of Justice, and at the courthouse, detailed a press release from the prosecutor.
“All people who came into contact with the powder were isolated and examined.
No one was injured,” it was clarified.
Toxic substance Brucine
“The white powder found in the letters contains the toxic substance Brucine (…) dangerous only when a person ingests it,” according to the press release.
“Contact with the skin presents no danger.”
Brucine is a violent poison which has properties similar to those of strychnine, the absorption of which causes muscle contracture and leads to respiratory paralysis.
The prosecutor assured that "the first results of the investigation showed that these facts have nothing to do with the shootings of recent days in Brussels", linked to drug trafficking, and which cost the life of a person .
There are more and more settling of scores between rival gangs in the Belgian capital, where the circulation of drugs, and particularly crack cocaine, is on the rise.
