Ilias Akoudad maintains that he is completely unrelated to the death of Éric Masson, a police officer killed on May 5, 2021 in the city center of Avignon (Vaucluse), and to the shootings targeting his teammate.
From this Monday, February 19 and until March 1, the 23-year-old young man appeared for "murder of a person holding public authority" and "attempted murder of a person holding public authority" before the court the Vaucluse Assize Court.
Ilias Akoudad, a good student who fell into petty crime during adolescence, faces life imprisonment.
Two other men are on trial alongside him for having helped him during his run.
The day in which the assize court will return must have been confusingly banal.
Éric Masson and his police colleagues had already experienced dozens of them.
This is undoubtedly why his death during an operation to combat drug trafficking became a symbol for the corporation.
