Setting up a warning triangle: What you should definitely pay attention to
A warning triangle must also always be carried in the car in accordance with Section 53a
of the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO)

Only warning triangles that comply with the EU standard ECE R27 are permitted in this country.
Among other things, this specifies certain values for luminosity at night and visibility during the day.
In addition, a warning triangle must be able to withstand a wind speed of 60 km/h for a period of at least three minutes.

It is important not only to know where in the car you have stowed your warning triangle, but also how to set it up.
In the event of an accident or breakdown, the distance to the vehicle varies depending on local conditions:
Inner town: 50 meters
On country roads: 100 meters
On motorways: at least 150 meters
If you have difficulty estimating distances, you can use guide posts as a guide.
These are usually placed at a distance of 50 meters.
On the highway, the optimal distance would correspond to the distance between four guide posts.
The warning triangle is placed on the right side of the road.

With the warning triangle on the way to the installation site: safety comes first
But on busy roads - especially at night - the route to the installation site is extremely dangerous.
That's why you should first activate the hazard warning lights on your vehicle and always put on a safety vest before leaving the car to take the warning triangle out of the packaging and assemble it (which apparently not everyone knows, as a strange incident shows).
You should then go to the installation site at the very edge of the road – if possible behind the guard rail.
Additional visibility can be achieved by carrying the warning triangle in front of you at chest height.
When setting up the warning triangle, a few basic rules should be observed.

No warning triangle set up: Drivers face these fines
According to ADAC,
newer warning triangles have
a particularly bright day side and a reflective night side.
Depending on the time of day, you have to make sure that the corresponding side faces the traffic.
According to the automobile club, anyone who fails to properly secure their broken down vehicle will face a fine of 30 euros.
If other drivers are endangered or an accident occurs, you can even face a fine of 60 or 75 euros plus one point each in Flensburg.
