A few weeks after the death of his wife Melinda, Brian Wilson's family revealed that the iconic singer, founder and frontman of the Beach Boys - suffers from dementia.

The family asked a Los Angeles court to grant guardianship of the 81-year-old musician because he suffers from a "major neurocognitive problem," according to the documents filed, and requires help with daily living.

According to the petition, Wilson is "unable to adequately meet his personal physical health needs" and is taking anti-dementia medication.



A statement on Wilson's Facebook page read: "Following the death of Brian's beloved wife, Melinda, after careful consideration and consultation between Brian, his seven children, Gloria Ramos and Brian's doctors (and in accordance with family processes trained by Brian and Melinda), we confirm that the long-time professional representatives of The Wilson family, Leanne Hard and Gene Sievers, will serve as Brian's co-guardians."



Ramos is Wilson's household manager, Hard is his business manager, and Sievers is his manager and publicist.

"This decision was made to ensure that there would be no radical changes in the household," the statement added, "and that Brian and the children living in the home would be cared for and remain in the home where they are being cared for by Gloria Ramos and the wonderful staff who have been there for many years helping to care for the family.



"Brian will be able to enjoy all his family and friends and continue to work on current projects as well as participate in any activity he chooses."
