Ferrari is ready to return to the track in the world endurance championship, the Wec, which will have its inaugural race in Qatar on 2 March, and Maranello's hypercars, the 499P, were presented with the 2024 livery today 18 February, the date on which Enzo Ferrari's birthday.
The main innovations of the cars, characterized by the race numbers 50 and 51, concern a glossier paintwork resulting from a more intense red.
Tradition and innovation dialogue in the new livery of the hypercar from the Maranello company, a "dress" which, while closely recalling the recent history of a 2023 season which saw the Italian team win the Centenary 24 Hours of Le Mans and finish in second place in the Constructors' standings, looks to the future by introducing innovative elements.
Specifically, the AF Corse team hypercars feature a shade of red that recalls that of the 2007 F1 single-seater, deeper than that used on the 2023 499P. The color scheme, which also features yellow, recalls that of the Ferrari 312 PB: the last prototype that competed in the world championship way back in 1973. The result is a shinier colour, better identifiable by other drivers during the night hours when visibility decreases.
The composition scheme designed for the two 499Ps is also new compared to the previous year.
The main objective is to enhance the body of the car and the passenger compartment with two staggered blocks of colour, which create a fluid compositional rhythm, and with a design which, by mixing the two shades indicated, is able to enhance the lines and three-dimensionality of the geometries.
Aspects that are very evident when looking at the hypercar from the side: the Modena yellow "embraces" the entire passenger compartment, underlining its centrality from a physical and symbolic point of view, while lines, new graphic styles and horizontal bands of the same color help to emphasize the concept of dynamism and speed by expanding both in the lower part of the bodywork - near the rear wheel arches - both on the top part of the central fin, and inside the closing plates of the rear wing.
AF Corse presents itself at the start of the 2024 season with the 499P numbers 50 and 51 entrusted, as in the previous year, to the crews formed respectively by Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina, Nicklas Nielsen;
Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado, Antonio Giovinazzi.
For the first time in history the Lusail InternationalCircuit, in Qatar, hosts the World Endurance Championship.
The country overlooking the Persian Gulf hosts the Prologue (24-25 February) which anticipates the 1812 Km of Qatar, the debut race of the year over the ten-hour distance (2 March).
Following the FIA WEC calendar will include the 6 Hours of Imola (21 April), the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (11 May), the 24 Hours of Le Mans (15-16 June), the 6 Hours of São Paulo (14 July), the Lone StarLe Mans at the Circuit of the Americas - COTA (1 September), the 6 Hours of Fuji (15 September).
The championship will conclude with the race on 2 November, the 8 Hours of Bahrain (2 November).
