It's hard to stay calm after a car accident.
But if someone is injured, making an emergency call can often save their lives.
What is important during the telephone call?
A car accident is always an exceptional situation.
Fortunately, it is often just a case of sheet metal damage - but sometimes people are injured.
In any case, a crash is associated with great excitement.
Therefore, valuable time often passes before the correct response is made.
If you think about the “emergency situation” in advance, you can react more quickly if something really happens.
In the past, an emergency call box was often the last resort in the event of accidents on the motorway. Nowadays, almost everyone has a cell phone at hand, which enables help to be alerted quickly.
Nevertheless, there are a few things to consider when making an emergency call so that the rescuers can get to the scene of the accident quickly and appropriately prepared.

After the accident: put on high-visibility vests and set up a warning triangle
There's no question about it: when something has crashed, it's extremely difficult to stay calm - but it's still important to keep as cool a head as possible so that nothing more happens.
It's best to put on the safety vests before getting out of the car, which is of course only possible if you keep them within easy reach and not stowed in the trunk.
Depending on the situation, the accident site must then be secured with the warning triangle in order to avoid subsequent accidents.

Car accident with injuries: Pay attention to the five W questions when calling emergency services
If there are anyone injured, an emergency call should be made to 112.
According to Auto Club Europa (ACE),
this number works
in every European country except Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia and Montenegro.
So that help can come quickly and reliably, the so-called W questions must be clarified:
What
exactly happened?
Where
did the accident happen?
(Outside of town, station signs can sometimes help here)
How many
people are injured and involved?
What
injuries do the victims have?
Who
reports the accident?
Important: Do not end the phone call without being asked, but wait for questions.

Does eCall replace the emergency call after an accident?
Since April 1, 2018, all vehicles with a new type approval must be equipped with the so-called eCall.
This system uses mobile communications and GPS tracking to automatically establish a telephone connection to the emergency number 112 after an accident.
Does eCall now replace the “manual” emergency call?
It depends on.
The automatic emergency call is only triggered in the event of a serious accident - for example if the airbags open.
However, the emergency call can also be triggered manually at the push of a button.
However, this option is intended for medical emergencies - for example, if an inmate has a heart attack.
After a car accident with injuries, an emergency call should definitely be made - there are a few things you should keep in mind.

Alerting the police after an accident: When is this recommended?
However, according to the
ACE,
in some cases the police should also be alerted.
This is not automatically notified when you dial 112.
In Germany, according to the automobile club, you should call the police on number 110 in the following situations:
In the event of accidents involving personal injury and significant property damage
In accidents on the highway
If a crime is suspected in accidents, such as alcohol or drug use
Before traveling abroad, however, you should inform yourself carefully - according to the
ADAC
, there are also countries in which the police must be called in the event of any damage to property.
