A restaurateur based in La Roche-sur-Yon (Vendée) was sentenced this Monday to eighteen months in prison after the death of a customer allergic to peanuts, report France Bleu Vendée and Ouest-France.
The 59-year-old business manager, found guilty of manslaughter, was also banned from holding the position of manager of a commercial or industrial company.
In 2019, Anna, a 21-year-old student, died after consuming a spring roll at her school.
The roll in question contained peanuts, but the restaurant had not reported this.
Anna, allergic, then died of anaphylactic shock.
A restaurant deemed unsanitary
His relatives then filed a complaint against the Vendée restaurant.
“Anna must not have died for nothing.
Restaurateurs must realize that allergies kill,” testified the victim’s father-in-law, in Ouest-France.
The restaurant was also found guilty of manslaughter and was fined 20,000 euros, specifies France Bleu.
Anna's parents, as well as her father-in-law, will be compensated with several tens of thousands of euros each.
In addition to the prosecutions linked to Anna's death, the restaurant was also prosecuted for 29 violations of hygiene-related regulations, reported the Journal du Pays Yonnais in January.
Due to unsanitary problems, the establishment, in the sights of fraud repression, has also been closed on multiple occasions, specifies Ouest-France.
