The M1 is one of the rarest and most sought-after BMWs, a mid-engined supercar with a design that is still fascinating today thanks to the creativity of Giorgetto Giugiaro who created it.
Powered by a 3,453 cc inline six-cylinder engine producing 277 HP, in the road version, coupled to a five-speed ZF manual gearbox and equipped with a limited slip differential, it was the protagonist of the F1 support series from 1979 to 1980.
This BMW was built in approximately 450 units in total from 1978 to 1981, and 1 of the 399 examples approved for road circulation, produced in 1981, will be auctioned by RM Sotheby's, in Miami, Florida, from March 1st.
Its particularity, based on the description of the car's characteristics on the Rm Sotheby's website, would be in the shade of the silver livery, which would stand out from that of the other two M1s produced with a similar color.
The car in question manufactured on 23 February 1981 and delivered to the official BMW dealer in Bois d'Arcy, France on 27 March 1981, according to an official BMW Classic certificate dated 19 July 2016, was exported by to Japan in 1983 and registered in Osaka.
It was subsequently exported to Belgium in 2006, and then to the USA in 2016. Currently, it has traveled less than 17,200 km and the selling price should be between 700 thousand and 900 thousand euros.
