On video: London mobilizes for the Israeli abductees/PR
The famous bronze statue of singer Amy Winehouse that has been standing in Camden Market in London for about a decade was defaced in recent days when a Palestinian flag was affixed to the Star of David pendant of the late Jewish singer.
The sticker was identified as belonging to the pro-Palestinian organization Friends of Al Aqsa.
A person who works in the area told the Jewish Chronicle website: "Obviously, they took care of the Shield of David. They could have stuck the Palestinian flag anywhere else on the statue. Why didn't they stick the sticker on Amy's skirt or on her head? It's clear they used the Palestinian flag To cover the only Jewish symbol on her."
The statue was placed in place in 2014, three years after Winehouse's tragic death.
It was created by British artist Scott Eaton, as a tribute to the Jewish singer who died in her home near Camden Square due to alcohol poisoning on July 23, 2011. The statue has become a pilgrimage site for fans and tourists.
"People like to come there to take pictures with him," the employee told the site.
Camden Market reported that the vandalism was taken care of and the matter was handed over to the police.
