"True Detective: The Land of the Night" ended this week - the fourth season of HBO's suspense drama (and Israel Bis, Hot and Cellcom TV).
It was the first season that the creator of the original series, Nick Pizzolato, was not involved.
The one who took the reins is the Mexican director and screenwriter Isa Lopez, who actually created "The Land of the Night" as a work that stands on its own.
On the advice of HBO, which wanted to refresh the brand and use it as a well-known and beloved intellectual property, Lopez turned the script into something that aired in unison with the existing series, including homages and references to past events.
Pizzolato has been vocal against this season since its inception, making it clear to his followers on social media that he has no part in it.
On Monday of this week, with the end of the season, he uploaded a series of stories on Instagram in which he shared some of the harshest criticisms of the "Land of the Night".
He did delete them quite quickly, just as he did with previous posts that were included in the series, but of course the screenshots were already taken and shared on Twitter.
"I can only imagine what it feels like to write one of the greatest dialogues of all time and see it butchered and abused like this," wrote someone who sent love to Pizzolato, in one of the posts the creator shared.
"Last night's finale was some of the most sloppy dialogue I've ever seen. It's so insulting to call it 'True Detective,' and even more insulting to use 'time is a flat circle'" - one of the memorable lines from the first season, which starred Woody Harrelson and Matt Hugh McConaughey.
The creator also shared a post from a viewer who wrote, "HBO should have stuck with Nick Pizzolato. You had Jodie Foster, a naturally threatening atmosphere, and access to Nick, McConaughey, and Harrelson (all of whom continue to receive producer credits even if they're not involved, F) and yet no You managed to finish well or maintain tension that is not based on cheap panic moments."

Callie Reyes, who starred in "Land of the Night" alongside Jodie Foster, responded on Twitter about Pizzolato's slurs: "It's a shame. But hey, I guess 'if you don't have something good to share, shit on others' is the new wave."
Pizzolato's colleagues in the profession did not like his conduct either.
Robert King, co-creator of "The Good Wife," "The Good Ones," "The Face of Evil" and others, wrote on Twitter: "This is not a good look for a showrunner, or even a former showrunner. Will Landman, the man of "American Gods."

"True Detective: The Land of the Night" was the first time that two women led the investigation at the center of the season.
This time the story took place in frozen and dark Alaska, where the disappearance of eight scientists from a local research station leads to the investigation of Detective Liz Danvers (Foster), who is joined by Detective Evangeline Navarro (Rice), six years after they previously worked together on a serious murder case.
The two try to find out who is behind the disappearance of the scientists, and along the way uncover the secrets of the town and the internal tensions between its residents, as well as deal with the effect of the investigation on their personal lives.
"Land of the Night" received the most cautious reviews of all seasons of the series.
On the "Rotten Tomatoes" website, which weighs reviews for positive or negative, the season receives a "92 percent freshness", compared to 91 for the first season, 84 for the third and 47 for the second.
The ratings of the season were also excellent, and received the highest viewing figures of the series ever, also due to the fact that it is available on the Max streaming service and not only on the HBO channel, unlike the previous ones.
On the other hand, the scores given by surfers to the season on the IMDB website are the worst in "True Detective" history, including a score of 5.6 out of 10 for the last episode.
