When Dee Bradley Baker zooms up in front of you and says hello, the first reaction is "Wow" - it's simply amazing how evening, radiophonic and pleasant his voice is, even in small talk.

No wonder then that he is one of the busiest voice actors of our generation.

His list of roles includes thousands of characters.

It ranges from Daffy Duck in "Spice Jam," through Klaus the Fish in "American Dad" to Squilliam and Bubble Bass in "SpongeBob," and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

In recent years, Baker has outdone himself.

He voices all the characters of the "Bad Guys", the group of clones at the center of "Star Wars: Bad Batch", the Disney Plus animated series created as a sequel to "The Clone Wars".

Today (Wednesday) the third season of the series airs on Disney Plus, in which the clones embark on a series of particularly challenging and fateful missions, and as usual they do it in Baker's voice.

"This project demanded more from me than any other project in my career," he says in a conversation with Walla!

culture.

"Playing a group of characters, characterizing each and every one of them, and doing it for three seasons? It's crazy. I'm used to being asked to do two or three voices in one episode, but to do so many for three seasons, it's a crazy adventure. Happily, it's also an adventure Very satisfying."

Star Wars has one of the largest — and most reviled — fan communities.

Much has been said about the negative sides of this adoration, but what are the positive sides?

"That's an interesting question. What draws people to 'Star Wars'? The fact that it's a story about a conflict between justice and injustice, and about characters trying to figure out what's the right thing to do. It's a story about hope and cooperation, something that people crave in our world, but Inside the cover of a fantastic and cool world that I wish we really lived in, with lightsabers and all that. 'Star Wars' is an ideal platform for reflecting on the question of how we would like to live and what we would expect from our world. The fans of 'Star Wars' are a diverse community and fun, fun I can communicate with her at conferences and the like."

I have to say, your voice is so pleasant!

Do people recognize you or compliment you just by your voice?

"Dubbers are invisible, and we like that. One of the advantages of the profession is that you don't have to be famous. Sometimes when I shop at the supermarket, the cashier tells me, 'I recognize your voice.' gave me my passport and said 'I'm a big fan'. It was nice, but luckily it doesn't happen often."

Baker did not study acting but philosophy, and spent a year at the University of Göttingen in Germany.

I also happened to live in this German city, and the American actor was excited to hear about it - it's not a very big city, and he doesn't often get to talk about it.

"The time in Göttingen changed my life," he says.

"I studied philosophy and German, a language that I still use to this day. They say that those who learn a language gain another soul - and it's true. Part of what we do as actors is to use elements from our world, and if you speak another language, then your world is richer. English is a language with little Rules and many exceptions, and German is a language with few exceptions and many rules, so thanks to it I understand grammar better, and control it much better than the average American, which of course also helps me as an actor whose work is based on language and dialogues."
