Bosch, through its Engineering division and the German automotive consultancy giant Edag Engineering (almost 800 million in turnover per year) have signed a memorandum of understanding regarding collaboration on complete vehicle engineering projects.

Through this agreement, Bosch and Edag aim to jointly make their skills available to the market by integrating their respective areas of specialization in the best possible way.

This is thanks to the vast experience that both companies have acquired by completing complete projects, from the study of the vehicles to their production.

Once the agreement is operational, car manufacturers and other customers in the sector will receive from a single supplier a complete and integrated set of engineering services tailored to their needs, without having to worry about coordinating individual engineering areas.

“Increasingly stringent requirements regarding the environment and sustainability, and new trends such as software-based vehicles – said Johannes-Jörg Rüger, President of Bosch Engineering – lead to increasing complexity in vehicle design. By exploiting

our synergies, we can work together with customers to bring new models on the road even faster and more conveniently."

In turn, the Italian Cosimo De Carlo, who has been CEO of the Edag Group since 2018, underlined that "the union of the skills of Edag and Bosch Engineering will act as accelerators of technological innovations".

Together, the two companies offer a wide range of services for on-board systems, which concern for example electrical and electronic (E/E) networks, hardware and software architectures, the development of new functions and specific components.

But also derivative development, systems integration, testing and production planning thus covering the entire spectrum of design and engineering services, from pre-development to deployment of vehicles and complete manufacturing plants.

The two companies explain that this includes styling, virtual modeling, electronics and software development, prototype construction, hardware testing, and the provision of technical services and manufacturing methods.

Proven simulation systems, digital twins for products and manufacturing and a comprehensive set of smart factory skills will ensure high quality, safety, agility and flexibility in the development and manufacturing process.

The memorandum of understanding between the two companies arises from a multi-year collaboration, on the basis of which joint projects for various car manufacturers in complete vehicle engineering have already been successfully completed.

“Using sustainable strategies and cutting-edge processes and methods, we together create the optimal environment to manage the complexity of the tasks associated with comprehensive vehicle engineering and the implementation of smart factories, so as to enable a successful market launch” , declared Cosimo De Carlo and Johannes-Jörg Rüger.
