Volvo Cars' electric and hybrid models update their name and technology.
As part of a program to simplify and standardize the names of its car models, the Swedish company has decided to rename the exclusively electric traction models XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge to EX40 and EC40.
The XC40 name will be retained for the combustion engine variants of the model.
The update also includes the removal of the Recharge logo from plug-in hybrid models, which will now simply be marked with the T6 or T8 suffix, indicating different levels of power output.
"By aligning our first pioneering electric models with the other components of our electric vehicle portfolio - commented Björn Annwall, CCO and deputy general manager of Volvo - we make it easier for consumers to choose."
Volvo Cars is also introducing a new Performance software package for the EX40 and EC40 Twin Motor variants, which is also offered as an update for the previous model year in selected markets.
The Performance software package, which increases power output by 25kW for faster acceleration, also includes pedal mapping for quicker throttle response and the special Performance driving mode that allows you to make the most of the available 325kW .
Investments are also underway to improve hybrid products.
The B5 mild hybrid petrol variants of the XC60 and XC90 now benefit from a more efficient engine combustion cycle, which is expected to reduce CO2 emissions and improve fuel economy by up to around 4% for the around 2% for the XC90 based on the WLTP cycle.
Finally, the automaker is about to introduce a special Black Edition for the EX40, EC40 and XC40 models, building on the success of the XC60 Black Edition launched last year.
