Spring is slowly but surely approaching - time to think about suitable summer tires.
The ADAC has extensively tested two tire sizes.
The ADAC automobile club tested summer tires
Size of the test candidates: 225/40 R 18 and 235/55 R 17
Extreme differences, especially in terms of mileage
New tires are an expensive purchase - especially for large and powerful vehicles.
It is therefore advisable to do thorough research before purchasing.
The
ADAC automobile club
has now tested summer tires*: in dimensions
225/40 R 18 (for lower middle class vehicles) and 235/55 R 17 (for middle class SUVs and vans)
.
The testers were able to notice differences
primarily
in terms of mileage
.
Only the
Hankook subsidiary Laufenn
made
a mistake .
ADAC test category 1: summer tires size 225/40 R 18
The good news first: When it comes to the quality of the tires, hardly any test candidate made a major mistake.
Of the 16 UHP (ultra-high-performance) tires tested in
size 225/40 R 18,
the ADAC awarded
the rating “good” four times and the grade “satisfactory” eleven times.
Two tires share first place: the
“
PremiumContact
6” from Continental
(grade: 2.1) and the
“Pilot Sport 4” from Michelin
(grade: 2.1).
Two tires with the same grade also landed in second place: the “Eagle F1 Asymetric 5” from Goodyear (grade: 2.2) and the “Victra Sport 5” from Maxxis (grade: 2.2).
By the way
, Maxxis
is a
Taiwanese manufacturer
that is still relatively unknown to us .
Before changing to summer tires, you should do some thorough research.

As the ADAC found out in its summer tire test for the size 225/40 R 18, the four tires rated “good” are the best all-rounders.
However, there were
big differences
between the test candidates
when it came
to predicted wear : the
last three places
were occupied by the
"P Zero" from Pirelli (25,500 km)
, the
"Powerproof" from Nokian (27,900 km)
and the
"Ecsta PS71" from Kumho (28,200 km).
The ADAC testers predicted the longest service life for the following three tires: “Eagle F1 Asymetric 5” from Goodyear (39,600 km), “PremiumContact 6” from Continental (39,200 km) and “Azenis FK510” from Falken (38,500 km).

Summer tires in the test: which models will perform well in 2024 - and which will fail
ADAC test category 2: summer tires size 235/55 R 17
While all test candidates achieved at least a "satisfactory" rating for the tires for the lower middle class, there was a total failure for the
tires in size 235/55 R 17 (for middle class SUVs and vans)
: The
"S-Fit EQ" from the Hankook Daughter Laufenn received a “poor” rating from the ADAC.
It was still convincing on dry roads, but when it was wet the tire showed major weaknesses: it had little grip and poor balance and could only be steered imprecisely over the course.
Apparently the manufacturer has now noticed this: the model has been replaced by a successor (EQ+).
The "
Primacy 4" from Michelin
won
the ADAC summer tire test for size 235/55 R17
- it received
a test grade of good (1.9) from the ADAC.
Among other things, it impressed with the predicted mileage (46,700 km).
The top-placed “Turanza T005” from Bridgestone (41,400 km), “Premitra 5” from Maxxis (37,000 km) and “Cinturato P7” from Pirelli (35,000 km) also showed good mileage.
According to the ADAC testers, the top quartet also scored well with good performance on both dry and wet roads - and the fuel consumption was also impressive.

But be careful: you shouldn't put your summer tires on too early* - if winter conditions occur again, you could face a fine.
