After showing several prototypes, the definitive version of the
Renault 5
was finally launched , the new generation of the small and popular car that was a success in France and Europe in the 70s and 80s and is now
electric
.
Developed in just three years - one less than the standard cycle - it is manufactured in France and is already offered on the European market as one of the most economical electric options: starting at
25,000 euros.
The Renault 5 E-Tech has a
retrofuturistic
design that combines the brand's new aesthetic language with features that evoke the silhouette of this model that also knew how to navigate our streets.
The new Renault 5 is the French brand's first vehicle designed entirely on
AmpR Small
, the new platform dedicated to electric vehicles in the compact segment.
The new R5 measures less than four meters and has 18" wheels.
This makes it a vehicle with real competitive advantages, such as a flat floor, long wheelbase, lower center of gravity, reduced weight, greater interior space and an optimized trunk capacity (326 liters).
The successor to the Zoe
The R5 E-Tech arrives to replace the
Zoe
, a model that was close to arriving in Argentina and with which Renault sought to dominate the electric boys segment.
Recycled materials from plastic bottles were used for the interior.
The linings are made of jean fabric.
Regarding its dimensions, it measures 3.92 meters long, 1.77 m.
wide and 1.50 m.
High;
The wheelbase is 2.54 meters, while it weighs less than 1,500 kilos.
For its part, the cargo capacity of the trunk is 326 liters, not bad for a model in its segment.
The new Renault 5 only has a
five-door
silhouette that is offered in striking metallic colors, such as yellow (
Jaune Pop
), green (
Vert Pop
) and blue (
Bleu Nocturne
), and 18-inch wheels (tires size 195/55 R18).
The interior also offers retro details that can be seen in the design of the gear selector on the steering column, the front panel (with vertical seams) and the seats.
While the materials chosen to cover the door panels and seats are
100% recycled
.
The ideal capacity is for four occupants, although a fifth passenger with a small build could travel.
Logically, this vintage style is combined with an instrument panel that can be 7 or 10 inches depending on the version and a 10.1-
inch
multimedia system touch screen that, among its features, incorporates a virtual assistant (
Reno
) capable of interacting with the artificial intelligence of
Chat GPT
.
Under the hood the R5 has an electric motor that offers
three power levels
: 70 kW (equivalent to 95 HP), 90 kW (120 HP) and 110 kW (150 HP).
The 70 kW and 90 kW variants are powered by a lithium-ion battery that has a capacity of 40 kWh, with which they can travel up to
300 kilometers
.
For its part, the most powerful is associated with a 52 kWh battery that gives it a declared range of up to
400 kilometers
.
In all cases, the maximum speed is
150 km/h
.
Gear selector on the steering wheel.
As a curiosity, the Renault 5 E-Tech has a
pedestrian warning sound system
created by the renowned electronic music artist Jean-Michel Jarre, which remains active when driving below 30 km/h.
Renault Argentina has not yet announced whether the new R5 will reach our market.
It is worth remembering that the brand already markets the Kwid E-Tech, and will soon add the Megane E-Tech and Kangoo E-Tech.
