After the Mini, the Fiat e500 and the Volkswagen ID.BUZZ, Renault also uses a retro design to convince us to switch to an electric car, with the Renault 5 model 2024.
The new 5 really wears the still-remembered lines of the Super Mini from the 70s and 80s on an electric Modern designed with great emphasis on an accessible price.
Don't get excited about the black roof, it will likely be offered at an extra charge/Renault
In Europe, its price will start at 25,000 euros, and it will be cheaper than the Zoe it replaces, the smaller Fiat e500, and electric cars of similar size such as the Peugeot e208 and Opel Corsa.
If you manage to get to Israel before the end of the next wave of the purchase tax increase on an electric vehicle, its price should start at about NIS 120,000.
However, the competing Citroen e-C3 should be cheaper.
The dimensions are slightly smaller than the Super Mini gasoline models, or the hybrid MG3 that was unveiled next to it at the Geneva show.
With a length of 3.92 meters, a width of 1.77 meters, a height of 1.50 meters and a wheelbase of 2.54 meters, it manages to offer a relatively large trunk of 326 liters.

You can also find retro references in the driver's area, combined with modern/Renault colors and screens
Like the exterior design, the interior is also reminiscent of the original 5, with the canopy above the dashboard.
The rest is rather modern, with a 10.1-inch multimedia screen, Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay, and voice operation based on artificial intelligence.
Unlike the original 5, Renault is not currently talking about a 3-door version alongside the 5-door that was presented.
As part of the effort to keep the price as low as possible, the 5 is equipped with 40 or 52 kilowatt batteries, compared to 60 kilowatts in the BYD Dolphin. The combined driving range varies accordingly between 300 and 400 km, and there is a choice between 3 suppliers for the electric motor: 95, 120 or 150 hp, with the most powerful of them enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 8 seconds.

Fast charging is possible with a power of 70 to 100 kW, depending on the size of the battery, engine power and level of finish.
Slow charging is possible at 11 kW, while the more expensive models will also have the ability to power external appliances, charge other electrics or supply power to the grid in times of crisis.
In the coming year, Renault will also launch the new 4 on the same basis, another retro electric car that will bring back the 60+ year old tall family car as a modern crossover.
According to Frisby, the Renault importer, the new 5 will arrive in Israel at the end of 2024 or at the beginning of 2025.
