The adage says that it's the first step that counts.
Two days after his confession before the Vaucluse Assize Court, the main accused, Ilias Akoudad, returned at length this Wednesday morning to the late afternoon of May 5, 2021 when he fatally shot brigadier Éric Masson.
Although he admitted to having fired, he continued to deny that he knew the victim's status as a police officer.
“I had this blockage, this trial in progress is the last moment for me to express myself on the facts.
Before, mentally things weren't going well, I asked myself 100,000 questions.
For me, it’s shame, I couldn’t get it out,” he declared to explain his confession, even though he had denied it since the beginning of the investigation.
“I couldn’t keep it to myself.
There is a family asking questions, I don't want to leave questions unanswered.
I apologize, it's weak.
I wish Mr. Masson was still alive, every day I think of him, and I will until the end of my days.
