Bosch Collaboration Microsoft can improve security - Industry and Analysis

2024-02-28T12:46:36.348Z

Highlights: Bosch and Microsoft are exploring collaboration opportunities to exploit the potential of generative AI. The announcement was made at the opening of the Bosch Connected World 2024 (BCW) event in Berlin. Generative AI uses large amounts of data to train autonomous driving systems. It can be used to communicate directly with the driver, for example by displaying a warning, or to initiate appropriate driving maneuvers, such as braking and turning on the emergency lights. The goal is to enable vehicles to assess situations and react accordingly, helping to improve road safety.

Bosch and Microsoft are exploring collaboration opportunities to exploit the potential of generative AI.

The announcement was made at the opening of the Bosch Connected World 2024 (BCW) event which takes place in Berlin bringing together a large number of automotive and digital world stackholders.

"Bosch is working to bring a new dimension of AI applications into vehicles - said Stefan Hartung, Chairman of the Board of Management of the German innovation and services giant - The goal is to enable generative artificial intelligence to enable vehicles to assess situations and react accordingly, helping to improve road safety".

To achieve this, Bosch's comprehensive vehicle knowledge and experience in automotive-specific AI will be invaluable to Microsoft, as will access to vehicle sensor data to power generative AI.

“In our ongoing commitment to making streets safer,” said Uli Homann, Microsoft cvp and distinguished architect, “we are eager to explore opportunities to collaborate with Bosch to pave the way for generative AI.”

The 'education' phase of current autonomous driving systems highlights room for further expansion of AI.

The devices are able to detect people, animals, objects and vehicles, but in the near future - explains Bosch - generative AI could help determine whether a situation could potentially lead to an accident.

Generative AI uses large amounts of data to train autonomous driving systems, allowing them to draw better conclusions and act accordingly.

For example, to understand if an object framed by the camera on the road in front of us is a plastic bag or a damaged part of another vehicle.

Information of this type can be used to communicate directly with the driver, for example by displaying a warning, or to initiate appropriate driving maneuvers, such as braking and turning on the emergency lights.

Bosch and Microsoft have already collaborated on the development of a universal software platform for the seamless connection between cars and the Cloud.
