Highlights: MG will launch two new electric cars, including a Mini for NIS 100,000 - voila! vehicle. MG4 will be a station wagon version of the compact MG4. And this was not its innovation: the successor to the MG5, the only electric station wagon sold in Israel, will be revealed this year. MG5 was launched globally in 2020 and here in 2023, but is based on a 2017 Reva model. Will the MG4 station manage to maintain its relatively cheap price of NIS 159,000?

The launch of the hybrid MG3 this week would not have turned out to be a change in the electrification trend of the manufacturer. On the way: an electric station wagon that will be introduced in 2024, and a mini electric that will compete with the Dacia Spring from 2025

Interesting potential as a station wagon with rear wheel drive/MG

When the Chinese MG unveiled the next generation and hybrid of the MG3 at the Geneva Motor Show this week, it explained that the choice of a drive unit that still includes a polluting internal combustion engine is due to the fact that it is still difficult to produce a small electric car at an accessible price.

But the competition is taking its toll and the manufacturer will not be left without a cheap electric car in the expanding market segment that includes the renewed Dacia Spring, the electric Fiat Panda that will be unveiled in July, the slightly larger Citroen e-C3, the new Renault 5 and the future Volkswagen ID.2.

BYD Seagal will also enter this market in 2025, when it will be launched in Europe as the Mini Dolphin,

the British weekly Autocar reports that next year MG will launch its first electric mini, which will probably be called the MG2.

It will not be much smaller than the MG3 (length: 4.11 meters) and will reach a length of close to 4 meters.

Like many competitors, it is expected to be sold with two battery sizes, a basic model with a combined range of about 300 km and an upgraded and more expensive model with a range of about 400 km.

The Chinese manufacturer will do the obvious thing, and the replacement will simply be a station wagon version of the compact MG4.

The 4 is the best-selling Chinese car in Europe, and in 2023 it climbed to fourth place in the list of best-selling electric cars, after the Tesla Model Y and Model 3 and the Volkswagen ID.4, and before the Skoda Aniac, Audi Q4 and Fiat 500e.

In the station wagon version, the MG4 is expected to be lengthened by at least 20 cm to some 4.5 meters. But it will keep the rear drive. I wonder if MG will also offer it in the sporty XPOWER version, with 435 hp, dual drive and 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.
