Nissan Motor has announced its roadmap for the commercialization of self-driving mobility services, which will begin in Japan.

With autonomous mobility, Nissan will provide a wide range of new services to support local communities in Japan, which are facing various mobility challenges, such as driver shortages.

Since 2017, Nissan has been testing business models for mobility services in Japan and abroad.

In particular, in the Minato Mirai area in Yokohama and in the city of Namie in Fukushima prefecture, an assisted mobility service called Namie Smart Mobility has been active since 2021.

Outside of Japan, Nissan is testing autonomous driving systems in London and other areas with support from the British government.

Building on these experiences, Nissan will begin offering self-driving mobility services starting in fiscal 2027, collaborating with third parties such as local authorities and transport operators.

During the trials, which will begin in the Minato Mirai area in fiscal 2024, the level of autonomous driving will be gradually increased, while evaluating the reaction from customers, with the ultimate goal of providing driverless services.
