A young woman suspected of having killed her newborn in Moselle was indicted and placed under judicial supervision, including an obligation of care, said Metz deputy public prosecutor Thomas Bernard on Wednesday.

A judicial investigation was opened for “murder of a 15-year-old minor” against the 21-year-old young woman whose custody ended Wednesday morning, said Thomas Bernard.

The young woman comes from Morsbach (Moselle), a town of around 2,600 inhabitants east of Metz.

She had been in police custody since Monday at the Forbach gendarmerie research brigade, suspected of having intentionally killed her baby to whom she had just given birth.

Hospitalized initially

On Wednesday February 21, she presented herself at Forbach hospital where she told her story to caregivers, who notified the police.

She was initially hospitalized for a few days in Forbach, before being taken into police custody at the start of the week.

An autopsy was carried out and the child was "a priori viable, hence the custody for murder", the magistrate said on Monday, without providing any information on the results of this autopsy.

According to the regional daily Le Républicain Lorrain, the possibility of a “denial of pregnancy” is “privileged” but Thomas Bernard indicated on Monday that he had “no elements at this stage” that could support this thesis.
