Tata Group has announced that its new UK battery factory will be located in Bridgwater, Somerset in south-west England.
The $5 billion plant will be Tata's first so-called gigafactory outside India.
Agratas, the global battery division of Tata Group, has confirmed that the 40 GWh factory will be built at the Gravity Smart Campus in Bridgwater.
The British plant, announced in July by Tata, owner of Jaguar Land Rover, will become one of the largest battery production sites in Europe.
The factory is expected to create up to 4,000 green technology jobs in the area, with "many thousands" more expected to be created indirectly, Agratas said in a statement.
“Our multi-billion pound investment will bring cutting-edge technology to Somerset, helping to power Britain's transition to electric mobility and creating thousands of jobs in the process,” said Tom Flack, CEO of Agratas.
Construction will be carried out in several phases, with battery production expected to begin in 2026, the statement said.
