The engines are warming up in view of the 1812 km of Qatar, the opening race of the 2024 season of the WEC, World Endurance Championship.
The competition will start on Saturday 2 March, with 14 manufacturers at the start, 37 cars competing, and 111 drivers taking to the track from 28 different countries.
During the recent prologue, again on the Doha circuit, the best chronometric references were obtained by the Porsche 963 of the Porsche Penske Motorsport team, for hypercars;
and by the McLaren 720S of the United Autosport team, among the cars of the new LMGT3 class.
With the hypercars traveling 45% of the time at full throttle for each 5,418 km lap, and reaching 307 km/h, the spectacle is guaranteed.
Furthermore, there will be 19 top class cars involved in the competition, demonstrating a category and a championship that is clearly growing.
The race, in addition to providing the real level of competitiveness of the WEC cars, will mark the debut of Valentino Rossi in the world endurance championship in the LMGT3 class, with the BMW M4 of the WRT team;
for Jenson Button, who will be a driver for the Hertz team Jota, in the hypercar class;
and Mick Schumacher, who will compete in the premier class with the Alpine Endurance team.
Also worth following carefully is the all-female team of the Iron Dames, made up of Doriane Pin, Sarah Bovy, and Michelle Gatting, behind the wheel of the Lamborghini Huracan LMGT3.
