A 96-year-old resident of a nursing home in Aix-en-Provence (Bouches-du-Rhône) died on Friday, a week after being attacked by his 93-year-old roommate, the prosecution said, specifying that the The investigation should determine the causes of death.
The victim was attacked on the night of February 22 to 23 by his co-resident, said Aix-en-Provence prosecutor Jean-Luc Blachon, confirming initial information from BFM Marseille.
The perpetrator of the beating was reportedly irritated by the repeated cries of the nonagenarian with whom he shared his room.
“The investigation continues into the charge of violence leading to death without intention of causing it,” explained the prosecutor.
An autopsy was ordered “in order to establish the causes of death and the existence or not of a causal link between the violence and the death of this person,” added Jean-Luc Blachon.
