Francesco 'Pecco' Bagnaia is officially a meritorious citizen of Pesaro.
The official ceremony for the awarding of the recognition requested by Mayor Matteo Ricci and the Pesaro City Council took place at the Scavolini Auditorium, which had just been inaugurated.
"An extraordinary rider, who grew up in our Valentino Rossi's team and who has chosen to live in Pesaro for many years" Ricci's comment.
Two MotoGP world titles, one in Moto 2, "he is a great talent, a nice person, with his feet on the ground and knows that every day he has to work hard - he added -. Like us people from the provinces, who have to run more than the others to get there, remaining humble".
Having arrived in Pesaro ten years ago, Pecco Bagnaia later spoke about himself in an interview with Sky Sport journalist Mauro Sanchini: "I love this city, I love the people of Pesaro, I have everything here.
When I say 'I'm going home' for me it's now Pesaro. Thank you".
"At a very young age, pursuing his boyhood dream of becoming a motorcycling rider, he moved to Pesaro, the 'Land of riders and engines' and here, flanked by the legend Valentino Rossi and also supported by the enthusiasm of the city which considers him a Pesaro in all respects , is preparing to crown the dream - we read in the reasons for the recognition -. The objective was achieved at the end of a wonderful season by winning the title, in the premier class, of World Champion, moreover on an Italian motorbike after 50 years of absence of one extraordinary pairing. A victory that once again brings the name of Pesarosportiva to the world and honors the 'Land of drivers and engines'".
Mayor Ricci had launched the proposal in November 2022, after the conquest of the first world title.
