In November 2013, Gabriel Saidi
(a pseudonym)
, then aged 16, joined Syria with his older brother and his best friend.
Member of a katiba of Jabhat al-Nusra, affiliated with Al-Qaeda, he stayed there for seven months before realizing his mistake and returning to France.
Sentenced to 4 years in prison including 1 year suspended probation at first instance and on appeal in 2017 and 2018, Gabriel is now completely done with the justice system, even if he obviously remains on file.
In a book co-written with our RTL colleague Thomas Prouteau, Gabriel recounts his journey
(“Me, Gabriel jihadist at 16”, Rue de Seine éditions)
.
That of a child born to a Franco-Moroccan couple, raised in a peripheral district of a large city in the south of France and who, very early on, crossed paths with Hakim
(again a pseudonym)
, a of the most active recruiters of jihadists in France.
