The pilot of payment in public transport by credit card, which has been operating in the Dan company for over a year, will be extended this summer to the cities of Jerusalem, Haifa and Eilat.
The Ministry of Transportation says that this is a step towards activating the option in all public transportation in Israel.
However, even after the expansion, payment by credit card will only be possible on Egged lines in the three cities.
In addition, those who pay with a credit card will still not enjoy the discounts and benefits that those who pay online and in apps receive, such as a discount for residents and senior citizens
. It has no multiline or apps.

The director general of the Ministry of Transportation and Road Safety Moshe Ben Zaken said that "in the coming months, the pilot of credit card payments will be expanded in the public transportation system, following the pilot that was successfully carried out with the Dan company.
Residents of the cities of Jerusalem, Haifa and Eilat will be able to enjoy the option of paying by credit card, in accordance with the ministry's work plan to implement the service on all public transportation lines in Israel."
Head of the National Public Transportation Authority Idan Moalem: "During the coming summer, approximately 400,000 passengers per day will join, to the payment service using credit cards, as part of the Ministry of Transportation's work plan to expand the service to the whole country."
Last month, the Knesset's Economy Committee, chaired by MK David Bitan (Likud), approved for the first reading two bills that were merged, one by MK Erez Malol (Shas) and the second by MK Valid Alhuashla (RAM) to amend the traffic ordinance and allow payment for traveling by public transportation also by credit card.
MK Bitan said at the time that if the Ministry of Transportation does not advance the issue itself, the committee will. In the meantime, even after the expansion planned for the summer, payment by credit will only be available to a tenth of public transportation users.
