In principle, motorcyclists are allowed to overtake between the left lane and the central barrier.
However, the law requires that you keep at least one meter of safety distance on each side when overtaking on the motorway - almost impossible on the busy motorway.
There is also the risk that drivers do not expect this and either swerve to the left, which can be life-threatening when the motorcycle is traveling at high speeds, or possibly open the door.
If an accident occurs, the motorcyclist is partly to blame.
That's why ACV.de emphasizes that overtaking next to the central barrier is possible, but not recommended.
