Broken springs, defective brakes and rust holes patched with construction foam.

A van stopped by the police had an impressive 46 defects.

Regular inspection and maintenance of the vehicle should actually be a personal concern for car owners because ultimately their own health is at stake.

But not everyone takes proper care of their car, which is why there is a general inspection (in which changes are currently planned) so that other road users are also protected from unsafe vehicles.

In other countries, people sometimes don't seem to take security very seriously.

In Langenfeld (North Rhine-Westphalia), the police have now taken a van out of circulation in a more than highly dangerous condition.

Brake circuit failed, suspension broken: van in catastrophic condition

As the officials report, the white Iveco van with a Polish license plate made an “extremely run-down impression” at first glance.

Upon closer inspection, things didn't get any better: the body of the 17-year-old vehicle was extremely rusty and in some places had only been patched up poorly with construction foam.

The full extent of the disaster finally became apparent on the test bench: the least serious defects included a damaged rear-view mirror that was only attached with adhesive tape, a non-functional horn and a loose bumper.

Extremely dangerous: A brake circuit had already failed, brake fluid was leaking and the handbrake also didn't work.

Load-bearing parts of the van's body were found to be brittle and the main frame was bent.

In addition, the lighting was defective and the vehicle's suspension was broken.

“Rolling time bomb”: Ailing transporter immediately shut down after expert inspection

As it turned out, parts of the brake had been deliberately dismantled.

According to the police report, the inspector's comment: “This transporter is a rolling time bomb!” Unsurprisingly, the vehicle was immediately shut down.

Some time ago the police even stopped a wedding couple in a wrecked Ford van - and shut down the car.
