The individual is still wanted at this time.
An inmate from the Aix-Luynes penitentiary center (Bouches-du-Rhône) escaped on Tuesday during an activity in Aix-en-Provence, Le Parisien learned from the Aix-en-Provence prosecutor's office, confirming information from Europe 1.
The detainee was in a release support structure (SAS), i.e. a lighter detention regime.
At the time of his escape, he was at L'Oliveraie, an area attached to the penitentiary center, where inmates help maintain olive trees.
An open investigation
The escape seems to have been planned in advance: the man would have taken advantage of a break to escape, and get into a vehicle that was waiting for him before fleeing.
He is currently still being sought.
An investigation was opened for escape, confirms the prosecution.
The prisoner has been imprisoned since March 1, 2023 and can be released next November.
He was convicted of several traffic offenses, but also rebellion and drug trafficking.
“Nearly a thousand outings are organized each year from the SAS (…) This is the only escape of this type, supervised outing, for ten years, it helps to put things into perspective,” assures Olivier Caquineau, departmental secretary of the SNEPAP-FSU union of Bouches-du-Rhône, in La Provence.
Last September, an inmate from the Luynes penitentiary center had already escaped, this time during his transfer to the Aix-en-Provence Court of Appeal.
