Two Internet users tried for having cyberharassed an infectious disease specialist at Bichat hospital, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, were sentenced this month


The facts date back to the summer of 2020. The world is hit by an unprecedented pandemic, and France is emerging from three months of grueling confinement.

On social networks as on television sets, debates around the management of Covid-19 are dividing, sometimes violently.

It is in this context that infectious disease specialist Nathan Peiffer-Smadja suffered a wave of cyberharassment from many Internet users.

Four of them were tried this Wednesday by the Paris criminal court.

If they must jointly pay 4,000 euros in damages to the doctor, the penalties are not the same.

Two of them received suspended fines of 500 and 800 euros.

Two others were sentenced to two months in prison.
