A man was arrested and taken into police custody after attacking two passengers of a TER with a knife this Tuesday, according to information from France Bleu Alsace confirmed by the Mulhouse prosecutor's office to Le Parisien.
The attacker had notably targeted a woman on board a train linking Strasbourg to Basel, in Switzerland.
The latter was carrying, in her arms, her six-month-old baby who was crying.
The man then came to see her, asking her to stop her child's moaning, insulting her and threatening her with death.
Once at the dock, in Mulhouse, the attacker redirected himself towards the mother, taking out a knife to strike her several times.
The blade then hit one of his hands, but not the infant.
A short hunt near the station
The partner of the targeted woman, also present on board, intervened against the alleged attacker, and was also stabbed to both cheeks and the back of the head.
The couple was taken care of by SNCF agents and transported to hospital.
For his part, the attacker fled, but was found after half an hour of tracking by the police.
He was then hiding under the terrace of a pavilion, not far from Mulhouse station, says France Bleu Alsace.
The man, aged around fifty and unknown to the police, was arrested and placed in police custody.
An investigation was opened for attempted aggravated murder due to the suspect's blood alcohol level at the time of the events, the Mulhouse prosecutor's office confirms to Le Parisien.
The terrorist trail has been ruled out, indicates France Bleu Alsace.
