More than 40% of cars circulating in Italy are registered in the name of a woman.
In 2023, however, looking at the new car market, women represent 40.6% of private buyers, one percentage point less than last year.
This is what was presented by Unrae, the association of foreign car manufacturers operating in the country, at Pink Motor Day. "The slight decline in purchases of new cars by women could reflect the difficult general economic context, which the female component has suffered the most" , said Cristiana Petrucci, head of the Unrae Studies and Statistics Center on the occasion of the annual event dedicated to the relationship between women and the automotive world.
This also justifies another trend.
In fact, purchases of new cars by female consumers are decreasing, but purchases of used cars are increasing, rising from 37.9% to 38.3% in 2023. The slow diffusion of low-emission engines also concerns women: pure electric ones, although slightly rising, they stop at 2.8% (4.2% among men), while plug-ins remain stable at 1.4% (less than 3% of men).
Among the favorite models are those of the A and B segments, with a particular predilection for the B segment SUVs. At the Pink Motor Day we also talked about the operators.
A survey carried out by Findomestic in 2022 showed that 24% of the workforce in dealerships was female.
Furthermore, in a significant sample of companies associated with UNRAE the female share represents 29%.
